Prelit Christmas Trees – How to Keep Traditions Alive with These

Every year as the festive season rolls by, there’s something that all of us look eagerly forward to.  We’re sure you’re silently nodding heads in agreement when we say nothing beats the precious family memories we make at Christmas.

Every year the season brings loads of nostalgia, especially while unwrapping ornaments and Christmas décor items. Each piece brings back a recollection of special moments that family members must have shared over the years, a tale accompanying each Christmas memento.

Hence, it is quite understandable why the environmentally-conscious Christmas merrymakers may worry about abandoning tradition with a prelit tree. But we’re here to assure you that traditions don’t need to fade out just because you’re putting up a prelit tree.

You can still observe the generations-old traditions and celebrate them in exactly the same way you did back with your grandparents. Here is how:

Tips to Keep Christmas Traditions Alive

  1. Do you remember going hunting for the most giant tree you could find with granddad before every thanksgiving? You can observe the same with your children, only this time head to a store rather than a farm.
  2. Take your children to a Christmas store and let them pick a prelit tree of your choice. Only make sure you let them know the maximum range you can afford, the space your house can offer for the tree etc. The age-old tradition was all about going hunting for a tree right? Do the same but only this time, your gorgeous tree will require no water, will not have allergens or branch needles littering your carpets.
  3. A prelit tree does not mean the topper stays inside the carton. Was it always dad’s responsibility to place the star at the top of the tree in a grand ceremony? Then by all means do the same with your prelit one. Gather the family around and let dad place the star proudly at the top of the tree. If your real tree always had an Angel topper instead of a star, then make sure your prelit variety has the same topper.
  4. Handmade ornaments- yes, you can still use these even if it’s a prelit tree. The only thing is to ensure you don’t hang the ornaments on the branch tips with the light-bulb inserts. Rest assured you can hang your handmade ornaments all over the rest of your prelit tree. Remember, it only comes with lights but not with the ornaments.
  5. In fact, talking about handmade ornaments, we remember how our childhood was ripe with memories of wooden handmade ornaments. We would paint out names, make paper or yarn balls etc. to put up on the fir trees. Why not make this a pre-season activity with your kids too? Prelit trees look even grander with wooden ornaments featuring names of all the members of the family. Prelit Christmas trees also have sufficient space to accommodate your paper and yarn ornaments. Traditions don’t need to disappear with modern technology; you only have to find your way to utilize them around it!
